Podcast?? The thoughts continue

From time to time I get asked about doing a “podcast” and I have to say, this has been an interest of mine for a little while, but still the time hasn’t seemed right. The essential idea is producing a 10-20 minute audio (or video) program that people could download and listen to on the way to work, while exercising etc. Now obviously, one of the things that I’ve been wrestling with is if we devote the time to this will people actually listen? Does it add value to what we’re doing as a church currently?

And here’s the last question that I’d love some of your input on: what kind of podcast would you want us to do?
One person recently asked me about a “leadership podcast” — I tend to do a segment in our elder’s meetings called: “Pastor’s Corner” where I talk about leadership and the vision and direction of the church and how to be the kind of leaders God calls us to be. So I could translate some of that into a format for everyone. That’s one option.

I could do a spiritual podcast where we discuss spiritual matters, growth and “devotional” kinds of thoughts. That could be a helpful “shot in the arm” throughout the week. Could be option number 2.

I could do a podcast with some variety, like commenting on news items, current events, technology and throw in some humor, a biblical nugget and keep it pretty light and interesting. That could be option #3.

Those are the ideas I have so far, but I’m real open to others…

So, would that be of interest to you? If so, which would be of most interest?
1. Leadership
2. Spiritual growth/ devotional
3. Variety/ light/ fun

Feel free to email me using the “contact” button or leave your comments here on the blog, I’m sure others would love to read your thoughts on the issue. And believe me, I will not be hurt if you say, “I don’t think this is the time for this.” (I’m not looking for lots more to do — but if it’s helpful and people will listen, it’d be an honor to work on).

I would definitely listen to the podcast whichever option you choose. I have somewhat of a mixed feeling as I would probably enjoy all of the options if not a mix of a couple of them.

Having guests/co-hosts, doing interviews of staff, elders, or others in the church, maybe having some contests that give away a free coffee/donut from the gathering grounds, etc could all be integrated into some of the podcasts.

For me, it’d depend on frequency. If it were occasionally, I’d watch/listen. I struggle with keeping up with personal & work email accounts, 8 RSS feeds (mostly for work but a few personal like this blog), Bible study, preparing for Catalyst as table leader, and on & on, on top of working full time & family time. A lot of people I know are in the same boat, time-crunched & feeling like I can’t add one more thing. (That’s why I don’t do Twitter, at this time). However, if it helps reach more His kingdom, then by all means go for it!
