Last week I wrote about how a movement is made up of individual steps and commitments all moving in the same direction. Yesterday at Grace Church was a significant follow through of that blog. I was blown away when in ALL 3 services when a call to come forward expressing your commitment to being “sold out” to Jesus more than a hundred each hour stepped forward (totally probably close to 350-400 people!!). Here’s the significant thing, as we said last week, if many (I’d think 350 would count as many?) were to take a small step forward (I’d say a public commitment to Jesus would count as a step) in the same direction we could see the beginnings of a movement.
Now I’ve been around church environments long enough to know that an emotional step in a worship service is one thing, the follow through is yet another thing. That’s my prayer today. I am praying that God will remind and inspire many who took a public step yesterday to follow through today. I am pleading with God that indeed what yesterday represented was a turning point, a milestone, a huge leap forward for us as a church.
(I’d be real open to any of commenting on this post with your thoughts on Sunday or your own step/ decision or even just some encouraging words to those who read this blog).
I believe that what began yesterday is truly a “season” where God wants to speak and move in our church, particularly in us as believers. As I look ahead to coming sermons — there will be some great things for us to consider and respond to all building on what happened yesterday in some ways. If yesterday’s step could result in additional “steps” we will indeed be smack dab in the middle of a movement, I’m convinced of it!
I wanted to also give you, the blog readers, a heads up on a significant “movement” day. On Wednesday, February 24th we are declaring a day of fasting from meals to devote time for prayer and Bible study and then calling the whole church to gather that evening (at 7pm) for a time for celebration, prayer and commitment as we kick off a big important series called: “It’s a God Thing”. Can I count on you joining me for this? I hope so!

I was also reflecting on yesterday (Sun) and I was super encouraged. My initial thought was … it doesn’t get much better than that. Seeing people loving God AND acting on that is very cool – I was one of them. Then as I reflected more, I thought maybe I was still putting God in a box with the idea that it doesn’t get better. Now I wouldn’t be surprised if God is pleased to do even more. Maybe even much more. Like Pastor Jason said, this might just be the start.
